Before ÒYÓ became what we know today as Oyo town and Oyo state, it was known as ÒYÓ-ILÉ which Historians referred to as the OLD OYO EMPIRE. That was the Era when the ALÁÀFIN had the autonomous power and was referred as “Alaşę ikeji Orişa” ( the 2nd in command to the gods). There was an absolute Power endowed to the Alaafin all over Yoruba Kingdom. The powers can only be checked by the OYOMESI, for the purpose of CHECK and BALANCE.
Infact, there was one Alaafin who ordered for the head of his father in-law, simply because the wife indirectly challenged his authority while bathing the Alaafin in the bathroom. Thus, the trio phrase of; ‘IKÚ BÀBÁ YÈYÉ” which is translated as; ” THE DEATH, THE PATERNAL and THE MATERNAL”. This might not mean anything to us in this modern Democratic Era but in the ancient Yoruba days, it meant a great deal.
Behind the Alaafin of Oyo’s Palace in the ancient days were rows of stalls where wood and calabash carvers known as ONÍRÈSÉ engaged in their craft work. ONÍRÈSÉ as earlier said literally means CALABASH CARVERS but among these carvers, one was nicknamed ONÍRÈSÉ. He was a divinely gifted Carver.
During his birth, an IFA priest who was consulted by his parents, informed that the new born baby will be a great leader and one day, he will find himself in a strange land across the ocean among the white people. But he must not engage in any work than the carving business.
His kinsmen were not surprised with the calibre of people that were patronizing ONÍRÈSÉ as he was growing into the carving business. The Alaafin, his chiefs, kings from neighbouring towns and all idol worshippers were all customers to this young man. His work was second to none in the entire Yoruba Region.
One day, some Europeans who had come to Oyo for tourism and to study the monarchical system of the Oyo Empire stumbled into the stall of ONÍRÈSÉ and they were completely amazed by the excellent craft works done by him. After everything said and done, ONÍRÈSÉ found himself in an exhibition in Switzerland where his work became the best among others.
ONÍRÈSÉ spent 13 years touring different parts of Europe with the help of a European lady who had become his close associate. After tying the knot with this lady after an exhibition in a small town in Sweden, ONÍRÈSÉ decided to return home with his new bride for proper African traditional wedding.
The entire Oyo township and its environ were filled to the brim with people who had come to witness this very rare marriage. It was a showcase of pure African tradition and the Europeans that witnessed the occasion were fully entertained. After the wedding rites, the Alaafin bestowed the title of BAALE ÌRÈSÉ to ONÍRÈSÉ for the great honour he brought to Oyo kingdom. With the new title and responsibility, the Alaafin believed that the white woman would not take the great man back to her strange land again.
At this period back home, ONÍRÈSÉ desisted from making calabash again rather he focused on other lucrative businesses and the governing of his little area. His old customers who were highly placed all over the Yoruba Kingdom approached him to make calabashes for them but he refused bluntly, encouraging them to patronize his kinsmen who are still into the business. This attitude annoyed some prominent chiefs in Oyo and they reported him to the Alaafin, saying the man had become so arrogant and disrespectful.
They wanted the Alaafin to give him him a marching order to continue with the carving skill. The Alaafin in his wisdom replied thus; Eyin Oyomesi, BÍ ONÍRÈSÉ BÁ KÒ TÓ LÓHUN Ò FÍN’GBÁ MÓ, ÈYÍ TÓ TI FÌN SÍLÈ KÒ LE PARUN LAILAI”. This simply means; If ONÍRÈSÉ, the calabash carver desists from making calabash again, the ones he had made in the past can never be perished.

The Meizu Zero doesn’t have any holes — even for the speaker. Instead, the phone features Meizu’s “mSound 2.0” technology, which lets the sound come from the screen itself.
Speaking of the screen, the Meizu Zero features a 5.99-inch OLED display that has a built-in fingerprint scanner directly underneath the display, as well as a selfie camera for facial recognition.
Since the phone has no ports, you can’t charge this phone with a cord — wireless charging is the only way to go here. Thankfully, the Meizu Zero supports “super fast” wireless charging.
Meizu’s 18-watt wireless-charging solution, if delivered as promised, would provide a much bigger power boost than the wireless-charging methods from Apple and Samsung, which use 7.5- and 9-watt speeds, respectively.
This ought to translate to faster charging times, but we’ll have to see Meizu’s final product to know for sure.
The Meizu Zero has a water-resistance rating of IP68 against water and dust — the same as Apple’s iPhone XS and Samsung’s Galaxy S9 — so you can submerge it safely in up to two meters of water for about 30 minutes. But the phone is not “waterproof,” despite the lack of ports and holes on the device.
While the Meizu Zero has no ports, it does have two super-tiny pinholes: one for the microphone and another for hard-resetting the phone. This is probably why the phone is not completely waterproof.
You might be wondering where the SIM card goes. Meizu ditched the traditional tray in favor of an embedded SIM card, as well as eSIM technology, which negates the need for a physical card at all.
Meizu said the phone’s launch in China will be dictated by the carriers and how they implement eSIM technologies, which might limit initial availability.
The phone doesn’t have buttons either, but it does have virtual buttons on the side that use haptic feedback, so you’ll feel small vibrations when you turn the phone on or off, or adjust the volume.
Aside from its other features, such as its Snapdragon 845 processor (the same chip that powered most of the popular Android phones in 2018) and Bluetooth 5.0, there’s still much we don’t know about the Meizu Zero.
While we’re curious to see how good the OLED screen looks and how effective the in-screen audio is, the biggest questions remaining after Meizu’s announcement are the starting price and release date, so we have no idea about this phone’s availability just yet.
That said, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn details later next month at Mobile World Congress, which will be held February 25-28.
One of Kofi Kingston’s Colleagues at WWE is DEAD
Former WWE superstar Ashley Massaro has died at aged 39, according to a BBC news report.
Ashley passed away in Long Island, New York, after being carted from her home to a hospital due to an ailment.
The root cause of her death is currently not known, the BBC reveals.
Massaro worked for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) between 2005 and 2008, performing under the ring name ‘Ashley.’ WWE expressed their sadness at her passing in a message that also offered her family their condolences.
Massaro was part of the WWE when Ghanaian born star Kofi Sarkodie Mensah, known professionally as Kofi Kingston, signed for the brand and started his long journey which culminated with becoming WWE Champion this year.
The former model and reality star leaves behind an 18-year-old daughter. May she rest in peace.

2019 UTME: JAMB Released Figure Of Candidates That Have Accessed Their Results
Over 1.3 million candidates have so far accessed their results using the result checker (code), 55019, according to theJoint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB.
Concise News gathered that the board’s Head, Media and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Lagos rubbishes claims that majority of candidates who participated in the board’s 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination had yet to access their results through the said code.
“I want to refute all these claims as there is no truth in them.
“First and foremost, by our records, over 1.3 candidates who sat for this examination have accessed their results using the code for checking the results, which remains ‘55019’.
“Again, let me also state in clear terms that the N50 charged in the process of checking these results does not go to JAMB’s purse but to the various service providers,” Benjamin said.
According to the spokesman, the clarification became necessary in view of what he described as ‘wicked and malicious rumours’ by some persons that the board is charging a fee for checking of results.
