Nnamdi Kanu Blasts Buhari Over Message To Ethiopian Prime Minister

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday, berated President Muhammadu Buhari for congratulating the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, on winning the 2019 Nobel Prize award.

Ahmed was declared the winner of the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in Oslo, Norway.

Congratulating Ahmed, Buhari had said the award portends a good sign for the peace processes within countries, and across borders on African continent.

A statement to DAILY POST on Friday had said “President Buhari felicitates with the Prime Minister, his cabinet and all Ethiopians on the remarkable global recognition of winning the 100th peace prize, which was attributed to a decision to end the 20-year conflict between two African countries, Ethiopia and Eritrea.

However, Kanu faulted Buhari’s congratulatory message, saying the Ethiopian Prime Minister got the award for his role in the referendum that split Ethiopia and Eritrea.

In a tweet, the IPOB leader wrote: “Jubril-Buhari’s CONGRATULATIONS to Ethiopian PM (Ahmed) for winning the #NobelPeacePrize for “his work to end the conflict between Ethiopia & Eritrea” is a CONTRADICTION, because major reason for the Prize was Ahmed’s key ROLE in the #Referendum that SPLIT Eritrea from Ethiopia.”

Pope to Elevate British Convert Newman And 4 Others to Sainthood

Pope Francis will create five new saints on Sunday, including India’s Sister Mariam Thresia, Britain’s Cardinal John Henry Newman, one of the Catholic Church’s most renowned converts, and a nun dubbed the “Mother Teresa of Brazil”.

Heads of state from across the world are expected at the Vatican ceremony, which will also raise a Swiss laywoman, an Indian nun and an Italian nun to the highest position within the centuries-old institution.

Prince Charles — the future head of the Church of England — will lead the British delegation in honouring Newman, a 19th-century Anglican theologian who went on to become one of the Catholic Church’s leading thinkers.

Born in 1801, Newman attempted to “renew” the Anglican Church, before becoming convinced that Catholicism was the only true faith and converting aged 44, rising through the hierarchy to become a cardinal.

Giant portraits of the new saints were hung from Saint Peter’s Basilica for the ceremony, set to draw tens of thousands of pilgrims.

Robert Forster, Who Starred in Jackie Brown and Twin Peaks, Dies at 78

Veteran actor Robert Forster, best known for his role in Jackie Brown and most recently in Last Man Standing and the Breaking Bad movie El Camino, died Friday at his home in Los Angeles after battling brain cancer, EW has confirmed. He was 78.

The New York actor was the son of an elephant trainer who first caught the acting bug in high school. After working in theater, he made the move to Los Angeles and nabbed parts in films like Reflections in a Golden Eye, Medium Cool, and Justine. He played cops on TV in shows like Police Story and Nakia and nabbed action roles in flicks like The Delta Force opposite Chuck Norris.

By the late ’80s, the gigs began to dwindle down to forgettable movies with names like Satan’s Princess and Checkered Flag – until Quentin Tarantino helped revive his career in 1997 by casting him as sympathetic bail bondsman Max Cherry in Jackie Brown. It earned him his first Academy Award nomination.
